Name of your website?

TIGG Actaivetd Carbon - Activated Carbon Adsorbers

Your name?

Neal Rabogliatti

Your Location (city, etc)

Oakdale

Please give us a short summary of your website?

TIGG manufactures activated carbon products for the removal of trace contaminates in organics. The products are designed for environmental remediation of industrial sites for liquid and vapor remediation including waste water treatment, PCB removal and ground water treatment.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

In todays industrial environment, many companies are faced with the task of cleaning up their manufacturing sites or to comply with EPA regulations. Many companies need guidance in how to handle such remediation problems. Our site was designed to help bridge the gap between the type of remediation products and equipment needs with the different types of remediation. We also included all of our knowledge about activated carbon to help educate our customers on all the important aspects of activated carbon.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

The first site was launched in 1997 but had little interest and impact. It was basically a brochure site just listing products. We decided in 2004 to launch a more customer focused web site that was also search engine friendly, which greatly improved our visibility and sales. We have launched our third web site in 2008 to take the customer experience even farther by offering better navigation between remediation applications and products and filter media to address a customers needs in a more user friendly method.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

Simple, Its our name and our business focus.

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

None of the other web site offer the depth of knowledge about activated carbon or help bridge the gap between what your remediation issues is and what products will handle the clean up efforts. We also share a large amount of our experience on activated carbon at no charge to the public. While the site is designed to promote our company and our products and services, we believe we need to offer value to anyone interested in activated carbon as a public service.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

To grow our business and help strengthen the regions economy, but also to help companies solve their environmental issues with the right environmentally sound equipment and services. We exist to help companies properly clean up industrial waste.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

We have found , web wise, that listening to the customer and presenting information they need and not what we want them to hear was the greatest investment. By investing in planning out our web site to be a resource and not just a sales pitch.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

Adding more case studies and examples to help further define the need for environmental remediation. WE would also like to incorporate videos of our products in action. "IT's in the planning stage"

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Actually it already has, we have identified our web site as being one of the leading factors driving new business to our company. It is one of the reasons we have moved to a larger facility to keep ahead of demand for our products.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

The usual hosting issues, spamming, and maintenance. We also learned how a bad hosting company can get your site in trouble with search engines (Another long story I'd rather just forget). We are also amazed at how many snake oil salesmen there are out there from selling you links to we know Google's algorithm etc. It took a lot of research to really understand best practices and differentiate them from the garbage out there. But I think we did a pretty good job!

What has been your biggest challenge?

Writing and organizing content! To really succeed, we had to pull together a lot of people to help create good quality content, images and diagrams. Building a good web site takes time and hard work! but it pays off in the end.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

Organic optimization, we used to spend a lot of money on pay per click advertising. Our analytics have helped show us that 90% of our traffic comes from organic search and of that it is our technical section that draws the most interest. By providing detailed information and being a resource, we receive a lot of links and traffic to our site.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

AT first we were skeptical that a web site could drive any leads to our business but after rethinking our purpose of the web and how we present ourselves, the site has exceeded our expectations greatly in a positive way.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

We have run a site since 1997 and will continue for a long time to come. It has been a great asset to provide up to date information and better communicate not only with new customers but with existing customers as well.
